The incredibly popular Brazilian version of the international reality television franchise Big Brother just began its 13th season about the Rede Globo network. Even if not watching the show, it’s challenging to escape this news coverage of who did what (the same as the inescapability of novela reporting). Not unlike the Winston character in the book 1984, from which the originally Dutch series takes its name, I felt like there is merely one channel for individuals to view in BBB 2018. Sure, there are lots of channels, the simple truth is, but there’s an unusual pull to linger with a Globo TV program when flipping through channels. Big Brother Brasil (BBB) is perfectly positioned to employ this and, whether through its popularity or its timeslot, people tune in.
If you do not know precisely what the show is all about, here’s the typical premise. Around 15 contestants (mostly model/actor types) get placed into a residence, fully designed with many cameras, that they cannot leave unless voted out. Weekly, the house guests vote on who they need to see gone. In the center of it all, and as a way to spice things up, you will find strategic alliances, as well as romances, that transpire. The past person standing wins a large cash prize and hopefully fame.
The Brazilian version from the show is filmed in Rio de Janeiro at Globo’s main studio known as “Projac”. The studio is definitely the largest from the kind in Latin America and one of the largest worldwide, too. The pair of the participantes BBB 2018 property is said to be probably the most sophisticated, equipment-wise, of all Big Brother houses worldwide. Provided you can name a favorite show on Rede Globo, it’s almost surely recorded at Projac (including Xuxa, Domingão, Caldeirão do Huck, Malhação, Zorra Total, and lots of, if not all, of their novelas).
While no-one has really shot to fame after winning the contest, lots of the contestants have gone through to have successful careers in TV and modeling. Sabrina Sato, who maybe you have seen BBB2O18 Justin Bieber, became a television host around the comedy show Pânico. Grazi Massafera proceeded to be an actress in numerous novelas, and Íris Stefanelli happens to be the host of TV Fama. Like with most celebrities in Brazil, fame means covering every one of the bases, whether it is via television, film, adverts and, at some time, taking part in a Carnival parade or school.
Despite, or rather, despite the participantes BBB 2018, it is usually referred to when Brazilians discuss the banality of your media within their country. As I don’t beg to differ, media the world over suffers from exactly the same malady in its catering to mass audiences. Every television viewer figures in the ratings from the individual shows so, in one method or another, we’re playing a part from the success or failure of any show. When personally choosing what to watch, I’m reminded of the media’s effect on a younger self, with Captain Planet’s call to action.
